Hacienda La Cumbre is home to some of the
finest Peruvian Horses in the world. Owners Bob and
Karen
Calentine
not only raise Peruvians, they enjoy them. They trail
ride and compete in pleasure and performance classes as
well as breeding in the regional and national shows.
The beautiful, outdoor arena located on the spacious grounds
of Hacienda La Cumbre is the main training area for Karen
and daughter Cheryl.
Cheryl, who is active in the North American
Trail Riding Conference uses her Peruvians to compete in
NATRC
all over California. After winning Championships at shows,
Cheryl won first NAPHA high point National Trail Horse
Horse on *AHT
Romantico
"The best part about owning a Peruvian is
watching how quickly they learn as you work with them and
teach
them what you expect of them. They have tremendous
brio and are very eager to please", noted Karen.
Although Hacienda La Cumbre has fulltime trainer and staff,
Karen and Cheryl enjoy working their horses themselves. Avid
competitors, Karen and Cheryl have won many blue ribbons in amateur
and open performance and amateur pleasure classes throughout
California.
An international oil executive, Bob prefers
the quiet, peacefulness of trail riding. "My job
provides all the competition I need," he laughs. "I
enjoy just getting away from it all and 'smelling the roses'
from the back of my horse."
Hacienda
La Cumbre was designed with Peruvian horses and their
enjoyment in mind. The sloping trails and beautiful
barn are inviting to novices and professionals alike. The
view from the main house is both peaceful and breathtaking.
Bob holds many of his business meetings at the ranch.
It is so enjoyable, everyone seems to be able to relax and
think more clearly, away from the busy chaos of everyday
activities in the business world. |
