Baronesa was introduced into my life in year 2001, at the time she was
owned by a dear friend of mine, Bonnie Lunt. Bonnie has a very busy
life, owning an Advertising company in NYC along with many other things.
She did not have the time to give the mare the attention she needed as
she was very high strong. I jumped at the chance to work with Baronesa,
I knew that she was special, although many people had written her off
saying she was no good. I took my time and enjoyed every moment I spent
with Baronesa. Each ride she would progress, and with the more trust I
gained from her, the more she gave me in her performance. I showed her
in 2002, however, we did not do great, we placed with some 3rd and 4th
place ribbons. But I was not discouraged because I knew we could
accomplish more. I stuck with it and knew that Baronesa would not prove
me wrong. In 2003 she gave me her all, winning Champion of Champions
Breeding Mare and Best Gaited Horse of Show at the Northeast Regional
Show. Baronesa continued her winning streak throughout the year and I
was on cloud nine! However my heart was broken when Bonnie told me that
she decided to sell Baronesa. It was very bitter sweet for me because I
knew that because of my accomplishments with Baronesa it made her a more
valuable horse and Bonnie could sell her for a lot of money. I could
hold in my feeling of being completely heart broken because I had fallen
in love with Baronesa. The following summer I went to visit Bonnie in
NYC, we went for a wonderful trail ride and I was riding who else, but a
daughter out of Baronesa. As we were riding, Bonnie and I were talking
about Baronesa, I tried so hard to hold back my tears with the thought
of losing Baronesa. Bonnie, being the wonderful person that she is,
could not bear to see me lose Baronesa, or for Baronesa to lose me,
because of the wonderful partnership we had formed. She made me a
wonderful offer to purchase Baronesa myself. It was still a lot of
money, however, I knew that Baronesa was worth every penny. Last year I
paid Baronesa off, much earlier than expected, the first show I took her
to when she was officially "my horse" was the double show in Tunica, MS.
Baronesa and I rode to First Place Mares Breeding 7+, First Place Mares
Gait and Champion Breeding Mare under BOTH judges! I had never felt I
accomplished more in the show ring as I did at that show with Baronesa.
Our last show of the season was the U.S. National show and Baronesa came
through with Reserve Champion Amateur Performance Mare. I thank my
wonderful friend, Bonnie Lunt, for allowing me the honor to own such a
horse as Baronesa. And I thank my wonderful friend, WF Baronesa, for
teaching me so much about trust, love and success.
