Maestro Gonzalo Mestanza

Maestro Gonzalo Enrique Mestanza Alva has been an integral part of Rancho de Sonrisas for over nine years.  Born and raised in Casa Grande, Peru, he has worked with horses in the USA for 20 years, and he and his family have now become US citizens

Gonzalo earned his title of Maestro by three times winning National Enfrenadura competitions on horses that he exclusively trained. He won once in Peru on a mule (extremely difficult) and twice more at the U.S. Nationals, on a gelding and a stallion, both horses of Rancho de Sonrisas.  Therefore he is a legitimate Maestro, an exceptional title that very few men have attained. He also has won many Breeding Division Championships.

Gonzalo, besides being an excellent Chalan, is also very knowledgeable of bloodlines and breeding and has been instrumental in the successful breeding program at Rancho de Sonrisas.  He trains in the traditional manner taught to him by his uncle Maestro Jose Alva.  I am extremely grateful to Gonzalo for all his knowledge, integrity, honesty, care, and friendship.
